I don’t think I’ve ever wrote an airline lounge post/review before? Hooray for a first time thing! So I flew to China with Air China in first class. By no means could I normally afford that but I fortunately had enough miles with Virgin Atlantic to use them on the partner airline. Now Air China doesn’t have a lounge in London Heathrow but because it is part of Star Alliance I was allowed to use any partner lounge in Terminal 2 (quite a nice perk). There are quite a few but I hit up United and Singapore Airlines. All the staff told me SA was the nicest and by no means did it disappoint!
To start off it is quite a small lounge compared to others I’ve been in. When you walk in there’s immediately a snack/kitchen area and then some tables surrounding for sit-down meals and some cosy armchairs. A little further in and you have sofas by a television and some individual pods if you want some privacy. Then there’s some bathrooms and a shower room in the back. In total I think there is enough seating for less than a hundred people so quite teeny tiny but I think that adds to the charm and appeal of it. The whole space feels like one large room but separated with fake walls and archways.
Decoration wise everything was immaculate and in keeping with tradition. Fake orchids brought colour and even when I sat down for an appetiser the flowers brought out to the table were on brand. Talking about food – it was perfect. The menu for the sit down option was varied and didn’t really highlight ‘Singapore’ but more overall Asian cuisine. I opted for vegetarian sushi to keep it light and I had already gorged myself in the United lounge (post coming soon). General snacks which were constantly available included various popcorns, sandwiches, desserts, samosas and a fridge full of beverages. There was a cocktail list if you so craved it and an abundance of beers.
The staff were super attentive and I think because of the small size I felt a little too watched on. At one point I was one of four people in the lounge and I had a staff member coming up to me every few minutes asking if I was ok or needed anything (when all I really wanted was to watch YouTube videos and be a nerd). I guess I’m just not used to being waited on and found the situation a little uncomfortable and intense. I see why people enjoy it and I get that it’s their job but I can get my own water from the fridge don’t you worry!
Overall it’s a lovely lounge and a perfect place to relax prior to flying in a metal box. I think if you’re fortunate enough to have a choice of which lounge then this a great one for the selection of food and lack of other people to bother you/take up those prime seats.
