easyHotel Zurich Review

Morning world. Sorry for the lack of posts but I’ve been busy travelling around/helping a friend out (you’ll see more of that soon). For now though I wanted to do something a little different and do a hotel review. I’ve never done one of these before as I think they would get monotonous but I’m breaking my own rule. You know the airline easyJet as I did a review on them last year, well now they’ve launched easyHotel. There are currently a few dozen scattered around different countries and they’re in the works of expanding. Just like the airline, these accommodations are very minimal and budget oriented (essentially all you’d need for a quick weekend away). I recently went to Zurich and stayed in the location there and figured I’d share my experience.

Let’s get started! Firstly I actually booked the room with Hotels.com as I wanted to take advantage of my membership there. The process was easy and I picked the ‘economy double room’ which was the cheapest at around Β£60. I paid online and bam that was it. Getting there from Zurich airport was really simple, just a train to downtown and a ten minute walk. The receptionist was very helpful and polite and five minutes later I was checked in!

I was on the top floor in the back corner, so very isolated from noise (and I didn’t hear anyone my whole stay). The room itself was large and very spacious considering it was the cheapest option. There was a bed, a TV that I didn’t use, a window (apparently many of these easyHotels don’t have windows so I was pretty chuffed there haha), hooks, mirror, trash aka just the necessities. There wasn’t an overload of orange which is always nice on the eyes apart from the door.

I spoke too soon… the orange was hiding in the bathroom. It reminded me a little of the ensuites you get on cruises where the room is basically one giant plastic pod to shower and pee in. Everything was clean and the water pressure was great. Two towels were supplied, as well as an all-in-one shampoo and body wash combo.

The rest of the hotel space wasn’t done-over with orange. It was white and very minimal. There is no lift so if you can’t deal with stairs definitely make a request for a lower floor. In the basement there are lockers and also computers to use the internet (there is complimentary wifi throughout that I should mention was super speedy).

If you’ve read some of my previous posts you’ll know by now I’m not that fussy when it comes to accommodation. If it’s just a weekend trip I want to be out seeing the place and just use this space for the bed, shower and storage. For that situation easyHotel is perfect on a price, internet and comfort scale. If you’re someone who prefers more luxuries or wants to relax, I’d rethink your options. I didn’t want the stress to do a hostel and found this a great alternative option. I look forward to trying out their other locations and let me know what you think!
