Ah I’m terrible at posting these on time. My access to internet has been so-so the last few weeks due to running and flying all over the place but I’m trying to get back on a regular Wednesday/Sunday posting schedule! Anyway here’s the next day from my mountain trip –
We awoke in West Yellowstone to an included breakfast buffet at our motel (which funnily offered eggs and salsa as a breakfast item?) and headed straight back into the park. First thing we headed to were the geyser basins on the way to Old Faithful. They were really beautiful but unfortunately we had to run around them quick as it started hailing. The weather was truly unpredictable so be prepared for anything!
I stupidly don’t have any photos from Old Faithful as I was excited to see it erupt but I guess that’s the tease of this haha. Now you HAVE to go to Yellowstone to see it for yourself! When you enter the park ask the ranger for the OF erupt times and they’ll give you a phone number that you can call to find out the next ‘rough’ time so you aren’t waiting around for ages. It’s very impressive and everyone was really excited and giddy to see it. We then got a quick lunch at the cafe and did some souvenir shopping as the main store area is in the Old Faithful section of the park.
Next we drove to West Thumb and did a mini hike up a hill to the overlook of Yellowstone Lake. We went past two deer – one eating grass out in the open and the other hiding behind trees staring at us. The overlook was really stunning and well worth the climb.
After we then went up against the lake and there’s a boardwalk kind of thing that goes right to the water and also passes by other geysers and hot spots.
Then we exited the park and drove through Grand Tetons to Jackson, WY. Our plan was to continue to Idaho but Jackson is such a cute and quaint town we decided to stay there instead. There are tons of shops/restaurants and cute motels to stay at. We went to a cowboy bar for drinks and live music and then ended up checking into a cabin motel for sleepy times.
