The drive from Rapid City, SD to Billings, MT is pretty dull. In order to make it interesting you have to drive a little out of the way to see sights (which is what we ended up doing). We decided to go to the Devil’s Tower. On route we passed lots ofquerky, little towns and the drive itself was pretty and full of green landscapes. Once we entered the tower district there were tons of prairie dogs running around and poking out of their holes. They would turn and stare for minutes without blinking which was creepy but once they then heard a noise their state of trance would break and they’d run around. It was sweet seeing them roll around and dance.
We then drove onwards to Billings, MT and ended up staying at ‘The Dude Ranch’. It was just like a cowboy/western lodge and pretty damn amazing. As we got there at a reasonable time (every other day we’d arrived at our final destination at like ten), we decided to go out for BBQ and just hit up the local bars. We went to The Crystal Lounge and experienced some karaoke Montana style. Considering Billings is the largest city in Montana it’s tiny and there is one skyscraper and the occasional shop and restaurant. Nothing like New York but the people are definitely much friendlier and way more helpful. Thanks to everyone who helped us out whilst we were there! Sorry for the short day but alas it was a big driving one and Yellowstone tomorrow!
