To kick-off 2014 I decided to get a headstart on crossing off some states. I decided to visit my friend in Baltimore and then also hit up Virginia and West Virginia. I’ve previously tried to go but couldn’t find a cheap and efficient route there until now! I opted for the BoltBus and so here is just a little review of my experience.
I have rode with BoltBus before to Boston and they are one of my favourite bus companies available in the US. They have a small fleet and only do trips to the North East and along the West Coast. They have a very modern branding and design which is nice. I feel like a lot of other bus companies could do with a makeover, especially considering appearances are so important these days. I love the lightning bolt and the bright red colour, it all just feels very put together and thought-over.
From NYC I had to get to 33rd and 11th which is a few blocks over from the nearest subway but the walk does you good. Then on the street I saw a selection of Bolt Buses and you just have to find the right one for you. They do an alphabetical seating order (depending on when you bought your ticket or if you’re a member of their loyalty club depends on the order you get to board). The bus was clean and empty and only around ten people got on.
Overall I like BoltBus as they are always quick and they never really have any problems. From booking on their site to getting on the bus it’s all stress-free and for the price it’s a great deal. I paid $30 roundtrip and it is around a 3/3.5 hour journey each way. It drops you off a few streets away from the main train station is Baltimore, so it is very convenient and easy-peasy.
